Back in the States!
So I am back at my Mom's house in Boca. (call me to hang out!) But i want to finish detailing my trip to everyone, especially since I am printing this whole thing out and keeping it. So you can probably expect about 4 more updates, but feel free to CALL ME now to make comments. It is very weird having a cell phone again. So after the free chai tea we left the restaurant and wandered around for a while in that area. The area Moulin Rouge is in is kinda seedy with sex shops and cabarets, but very fun to walk around. When we finished we figured we still had 3 metro passes left, one to go to the hostel, one to get to the train in the morning, so we decided to look in my guidebook for a cool place to go. We figured we would go over to see the Catacombs, since I hadnt gone in Rome I wanted to go. So we took the metro over there and it turned out they closed at 4, it was 4:15. So we wandered that area and stopped at a pastery shop and got yummy pasteries and sat outside and talked. This couple approached us to ask for directions somewhere and actually thought we were French! They were american, so we explained to them, in English, that the catacombs were closed. At around 6:00 we went back to the hostel to meet up with the rest of the girls. For dinner we walked from the hostel to the latin quarter to this Greek Restaurant someone in the hostel had recommended to us. After dinner, we went back to the hostel and went to sleep. The next day we were up and off to the train station to head to Amsterdam. When we got to Amsterdam we figured out the public transport system of strips or whatever, and headed to our hostel, the Flying Pig Palace. It took us about an hour to check in because they had messed up our reservation and we ended up in 2 rooms, Jenna and I in a 14 person dorm, and Jess, Gina, and Ashley in a 8 person. Jenna and I got our stuff situated, but the only roommates who were there (these 2 guys) were sleeping. (SEE GUYS, TOLD YOU I WOULD WRITE ABOUT YOU!, KEEP READING). We all met up again and went to the Heinikein museum/brewery slowly, because Jenna had hurt her toe on a tram track and it was all swollen. THe Heinikein museum was so cool. The first half was history of the museum with cool ads and stuff and then it was all fun interactive stuff. THey had a simultion of what it is like to be in a beer bottle, and a ride of trying to drive the horses they use for parades and stuff. There were also 2 bars inside, at which you got 3 beers. Not quite free because you had to pay to get in, but still fun. And at the second one the bartender let Jess and I funnel out of the tap, which was so fun, although there is really no way to drink that fast. They also had a cool store with lots of Heiniken stuff for not that much money. So i bought this really cool TJ (track jacket for those of you that arent Jenna or our roomies in Amsterdam.) After that we went back to the hostel and chilled and put our stuff away and left for dinner. (Roomie boys STILL SLEEPING). For dinner we went out to a street nearby, I got a veggie burger to go somewhere and the girls got McDonalds. It happens. Then we wandered over to the red-light district. The red light district was crazy. There are tons of people in the streets and the windows do actually put off a red glow. And prostitutes everywhere. You couldnt help but stare. Until Jenna pointed out, or asked really, do they do women, cuz maybe if we stare they will think we are interested. So funny. So the red light district was filled with prostitues, coffee shops, and sex stores, several of which we went into for kicks. Lots of fun overall. When it got pretty late we went back to the Flying Pig and went to sleep. The next morning we got up and went to the Anne Frank house. Ashley didnt come since she went as a kid, so it was just Gina, Jessie, Jenna and Me. The Anne Frank house was crazy to see. Having read the diary so many times, it was really strange to see where it had all happened. The apartment is so small and the windows were blacked out. It is impossible to fathom living in such small quarters for 2 years with 8 people and never see the outside world. They tell her story and it is so sad, even her pictures of movie stars, etc are still on the walls in her room. After the Anne Frank House, we went to a famous pancake house down the street. Reading the menu was very weird. We are used to seeing like blueberry pancakes and chocolate chip pancakes. But this place had bacon egg and pineapple pancakes, etc. Very odd combos. More later on panackes. Keep reading! Probably 2 more updates left!
